Here are some pictures from our folktale reader's theater presentations. Students really enjoyed performing for their classmates. We did: Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Hen.

Hi Room 29 Families, We have been busy in Room 29! You may have heard about what we are learning from your third grader or through reading our Friday journals! Here is a little bit about what's been going on in third grade! In Literacy, we spent time learning about folktales and read three versions of the popular folktale: Little Red Riding Hood. We read: Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red Cowboy Hat and Pretty Salma. We discussed some common elements of a folktale such as: setting, good characters, evil characters, heart's desire, warnings, magic, lessons and tracked which elements were similar and different in the three variations of the same folktale. This will help us when we begin writing our own folktale adaptations next week! We began doing readers theater with some classic folktales! Here are the students practicing their lines in their groups: In Math we continued our exploration of multiplication! We have practiced solving and creating multiplication word problems. Students have also practiced various multiplication strategies (skip counting, repeated addition, drawing pictures) and are beginning to identify good fit strategies for them. In Writing, we did some quick writes! These 3 minute long writing assignments are a good way to build student's writing stamina! We also practiced logging into our google doc accounts! Last but certainly not least...we had our field trip to the arboretum on Wednesday! Thank you to our chaperones would helped out :) Students explored the deciduous and evergreen trees in the arboretum and collected samples from their surroundings. They also tried to find specific trees based on clues their guides gave them. Here is a group picture from our trip! I hope you have a wonderful three day weekend!
