Happy Friday Everyone! In addition to emails, this blog will be a great place to learn about all of the fun things we are doing in third grade throughout the year. I will always email you to let you know when there is a new blog post up! This week was very HOT and busy in third grade! We spent a lot of time getting to know each other through sharing our artifact bags and activities such as d'icebreakers and Numbers that Mean Something to Me. We also learned about the routines and expectations in Room 29 and at Franklin school. In third grade, we spend a lot of time working in groups- so we practiced working together through completing the PAPER CHAIN CHALLENGE. Students had to work together to try to build the longest paper chain possible when given one piece of construction paper in 30 minutes (5 min. to plan, 25 to work) Speaking of working together... we each decorated one piece of paper and learned that they fit together as puzzle pieces to make one big quote: "Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean." (Students are holding the puzzle in the picture at the top of this post). We discussed what this meant and how it applied to our classroom and third grade. We also read Swimmy by Leo Lionni and were able to make connections between the text and the quote.
Overall, it was such a wonderful first week! I am SO looking to the rest of our year together! Have a fantastic long weekend! ~MS. NORRIS
